GROVER GREENFIELD on RATS
If you are looking for a talk for your local Rotary Club that is a bit different and will be talked about, then this may be it. Grover Greenfield will design a talk for you about rats. Grover has been a rat enthusiast since a very early age and now consults on animal ethics. This may be a great introduction to the world of rats.
GROVER GREENFIELD AND RATS
Anywhere rats are involved, you'll likely find Grover too!
They have had rats as pets since age 13, and they have become a true passion.
When Grove's health conditions progressed to the point where they could no longer continue their role as a research scientist, they found themselves with extra time to help pet rats and their owners who fell through the gaps of the animal rescue world. One thing led to another, and before long "Rachie's Ratirement Home" was born, an animal shelter specialising in the surprisingly popular domestic rat. The rescue has been nationally recognised as one of the best animal rescues in the country, winning Outstanding Animal Shelter at the PIA Pet Rescue Awards among other accolades.
Grover spends their time lending their niche expertise wherever it can help. Running training sessions for the RSPCA and TAFE courses, writing policies for councils, institutions, and rodent fanciers clubs, giving a leg up to other rescues and serving on Animal Ethics Committees overseeing animal research ethics and welfare. As a former RYLA attendee, they jumped at the chance to give back when their local Rotary club asked them to present on rats, and they put together a presentation aimed at the average non-rat-enthusiast, exploring our complex relationship with rats, as pets, pests, native animals, snake food, and the basis of our medical research. If you'd like a little bit cheeky, little bit funny rollercoaster ride through our relationship with rats, Grove is happy to deliver, and deep-diving into one aspect or another is easy to do if there's a specific area that's most relevant for the club.
GROVER GREENFIELD
Grover has been described as "the friendly local rat nerd. As a lover of animals from a very early age, Grover has developed an interest in rodents, and in particular rats. They have been involved in the writing of ethic and care guidelines for Rats and have studied for a Bachelor of Advanced Science specialising in plant biology.
