In April over 3,000 Boy Scouts and Scout leaders were invited to camp in the grounds of Government House, Canberra by the Governor General, David Hurley. Rotarians were invited to help cater for some of these Scout troops. Over several nights Rotarians from different clubs in the ACT and NSW were on hand to help prepare meals and feed the Boy Scouts.

SCOUTS AT GOVERNMENT HOUSE
The Governor General David Hurley as the Chief Scout of Australia provided “his backyard” for the Scouts to hold their camp during the April school holidays. Scouts ACT approached the Rotary Club of Ginninderra asking whether Rotary would like to also be involved in providing the catering for the camp leaders.
The camp provided an excellent opportunity for Rotarians to assist the Scouts and to visit the grounds of Government House. 17 Rotarians from seven Rotary Clubs prepared the evening meals over six evenings for the leaders and for the Gungahlin Birralee Scout Group. This was greatly appreciated especially by the leaders who would normally have to prepare their own meals after a full day of activities with the Scouts.
The Rotarians were invited to enjoy the evening activities including the opening and closing ceremonies and the campfire evening. It was great opportunity to explore opportunities with the Scout leaders to investigate ways for Rotarians and Scouts to work together on possible future projects.
