ANGEL FLIGHT

Angel Flight is an amazing charity that flies people around Australia for non-emergency medical treatment. A team of volunteers are doing up to twenty flights per day to assist rural people. When John from Lightning Ridge was cut off by flood waters Angel Flight were able to fly him to Bankstown, in Sydney, for specialist medical appointments. Again when floods cut roads Care Flight flew a Georgetown man to Cairns hospital to visit his gravely ill wife. Ten year old Mildura boy, Bel-Ami, has taken more than 30 flights with Angel Care. He suffers from sickle cell anaemia which requires monthly medical treatment at Melbourne hospital and Angel Care has been flying him there.

ANGEL FLIGHT

Angel Flight Australia is a charitable organisation coordinating free, non-emergency flights and ground transportation so people who live in rural and regional Australia can access the specialist medical treatments they need.

Angel Flight was started in April 2003 by businessman and 2005 Queensland Australian of the Year, Bill Bristow. A keen pilot himself, Angel Flight allowed Bill to combine his passions for flying, and helping those in need. In 2009, Bill was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia for his service to rural and remote communities through Angel Flight Australia and as a supporter of other charitable organisations.

In addition to their core service, Angel Flight has established a partnership with Ochre Medical Group who have a significant presence across most states and territories, transporting GPs and Allied Health Professionals into regional and rural communities.

.For too many remote communities, access to much-needed health care is out of reach and there is a gap in the market for consistent and familiar medical professionals who both work and live in the community. Angel Flight and Ochre Health, are addressing this issue by bringing medical professionals in to live and work in rural communities, offering access to flights to and from ‘home base’ when required.

Sharlene Cohen is a dedicated environmentalist and conservationist, splitting her time between East Africa and her business, Urban Rewild, in Australia. She spends 3-4 months each year in East Africa, leading grassroots projects that foster sustainable development and community empowerment. The remainder of her time is devoted to local conservation efforts, including a Koala recovery and Spotted-tailed Quoll monitoring program. MAASAI MAMMAS Sharlene's connection with the Maasai community began in 2019 when she was profoundly moved by their deep connection to nature and dedication to wildlife protection.
