RHYS CUMMINS on MURRUMBIDGEE MEN'S GROUP

Rhys Cummins is a Wagga Wagga local, founder of the Murrumbidgee Men's Group and an active mental health advocate in the region. Rhys speaks from personal experience about battling mental health, including depression, anxiety, substance abuse and attempting suicide. He advocates for mental wellbeing and aims to promote hope and recovery for anyone who may be struggling with their mental health.

MURRUMBIDGEE MEN'S GROUP

The Murrumbidgee Men's Group a peer led mental health and wellness group. It provides a safe and supportive environment designed to break down the stigma associated with men's mental health issues. The group's purpose is to:  

  • support men dealing with mental health issues and the stresses of life;
  • create a safe place for men to feel accepted and listened to;
  • connect men with services and supports that can help them;
  • break the stigma associated with men's mental health;
  • encourage men to reach out and talk about issues that affect them; and
  • to take a holistic approach to support and recovery.

The group was established in 2019 as a grass roots initiative by men who have experienced mental health issues and substance abuse. and has developed a strong support network. It aims to provide help and support for other men who may be struggling. The Murrumbidgee Men's Group is proof that men are not alone in their struggles and believe "together we are stronger".

Rhys Cummins is a Wagga Wagga local and founder of the Murrumbidgee Men's Group. Rhys works for Pathways Murrumbidgee in the drug and alcohol field and is an exceptional advocate for Men's Mental Health in the community. His leadership in addressing Men's Mental Health is well respected. He has spoken to school groups, men's groups and at community forums.
